The current transfer window highlights the difficulties Newcastle faces when trying to compete with the biggest clubs in the Premier League.
Newcastle United’s transfer plans have hit another snag. After losing out on Bryan Mbeumo to Manchester United due to his wage demands, they’ve now missed out on their second key target, a three-time Brazil international from Brighton & Hove Albion.
Newcastle United reportedly offered £50 million for the former Watford forward, but Brighton was holding out for a figure closer to £60 million plus add-ons.
Chelsea ultimately won the bidding war, agreeing to Brighton’s terms and securing the player’s signature. This marks a significant setback for Newcastle’s recruitment efforts this transfer window.

Chelsea are set to acquire Pedro, with the player keen on the move to London. The Stamford Bridge club offered him a lucrative deal, which Newcastle, despite their own substantial offer, couldn’t match.
A Newcastle fan named Tumbla commented on the situation, suggesting that Newcastle can’t compete financially with top-tier clubs like Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester City, Chelsea, Manchester United, and Tottenham Hotspur under current rules.
They believe Newcastle needs to be more strategic in their transfers, especially given potential difficulties clubs might face with Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR). Tumbla doesn’t foresee Newcastle signing multiple high-value players in the current transfer window.
