Newcastle United News: Sandro Tonali's Return Date From Betting Ban Made Public

Newcastle United have officially announced the return date for Sandro Tonali. The Italian midfielder was previously handed 10-month ban for betting breaches by the Italian FA.

Federazione Italiana Giuoco Calcio (FIGC) have confirmed to Newcastle United that Tonali’s suspension would last until August 27, this means that he’ll be eligible for selection as from August 28.

Newcastle plays Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup second round that week. The game might take place on Tuesday or Wednesday night. If the game were played on Tuesday, Tonali would not be allowed to feature; however, if it were played on Wednesday, the Italian midfielder would be permitted.

On September 1, Tonali’s first Premier League game back will take place at St. James’ Park against Tottenham Hotspur.

A statement from the club read: “Newcastle United can announce that Sandro Tonali will return to selection on Wednesday, August 28, 2024 following the conclusion of his ten-month ban from competitive football.

“The club has received formal confirmation from the Federazione Italiana Giuoco Calcio (FIGC) that the player’s sporting sanction will run up to and including Tuesday, August 27.

“The Magpies will travel to Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup second round during the week commencing Monday, August 26 (fixture date and time TBC), before hosting Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League at St. James’ Park on Sunday, September 1 (kick-off 1:30pm BST).”

This follows a misunderstanding regarding Tonali’s precise return date. Tonali’s return date was originally scheduled for August 27, 2024, according to a statement released by the team last year. This would have enabled him to participate in the Carabao Cup second-round games.
