Brandon Nakashima emerged champion of the 2022 Next Gen ATP Finals after besting Lehecka 4-3(5), 4-3(6), 4-2 in the final.
Nakashima who was undefeated throughout the tournament became the first American winner in the tournament history.

En route to the final, the San Diego native defeated Matteo Arnaldi, Lehecka and Francesco Passaro in the group stage while taking out Jack Draper in the semis to return to compete in the decider against the Czech.
The Next-Gen Finals were the second trophy obtained by Nakashima in 2022, since in September he lifted the ATP 250 in San Diego after defeating Zachary Svajda, Denis Kudla, Daniel Galán, Christopher O’Connell and Marcos Giron.
Beyond the trophies, the young category 2001 also experienced a good climb in the world ranking since he had started the year in 68th place and will end it in 49th , with 43rd position being the best achieved in the season.
Nakashima joins previous Next Gen Winners (who have all reached at least Top-20) since the tournament started in 2017 which was won by South Korean.
A year later, it was Stefanos Tsitsipas who lifted the trophy. In 2019 Jannik Sinner was crowned championCarlos Alcaraz was the defending champion before now. The 2020 edition didn’t hold due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Brandon Nakashima outclassed Jiri Lehecka of the Czech Republic in straight sets, 4-3(5), 4-3(6), 4-2, in Saturday’s final.

The 21-year-old was over the moon winning the trophy especially as an American regarding it as best feeling in the world.

“Being American and being able to play here in Milan is the best feeling in the world,” he said. “I am going to take (the title) back to the US and now take some time off.”
The American was quick to credit his team for his success.
“My team means everything to me,” he continued. “Together we have had such a great year, working well together. I am happy with where we are at right now and we are going to enjoy this one.”
Reflecting on his week in Milan, Nakashima said he was “super happy” with his performance, adding that the final against Lehecka could have gone either way.
“I am super happy right now. It was a great tournament this whole week. This final was another tough match. Just a few points that could have gone either way. I am happy with my level today. It is a good way to finish off the year,” Nakashima added.
