During the just concluded summer transfer window, English Premier League side, Chelsea were in contention with Barcelona over the signing of several players, with the Blues missing out on each occasion, from Jules Kounde to Raphinha.

They even lost two players to the Spanish side, Marcos Alonso and Andres Christensen, with the latter joining as a free agent. They were also linked with a move for Dutch midfielder, Frenkie De Jong, who was reported to be on his way out of Camp Nou at that time.

But eventually stayed and it has now appeared that the Blues may finally get their wish to sign the midfielder next summer. Chelsea midfielder, Ngolo Kante is said to be on his way out of the club when his contract expires at the end of this season and the club would like to sign De Jong as his replacement.

De Jong is currently frustrated with how things have turned for him this season as he’s been used sparingly, a little less than he would have expected after agreeing to the club’s term to reduce his salary.

Few months back, Barcelona sporting director, Mateu Alemany had already stated that the club would be looking to take advantage of the free transfer market and this would become all the more necessary following their early ouster from the UCL group stage.

To help them further cut cost, they could be forced to sell at least one big player and De Jong looks like the perfect candidate to be sacrificed as he’s not currently being considered as the replacement for soon to be departed club captain, Sergio Busquets.

For Kante, who will miss the World Cup with France, the midfielder is already exploring his options and Barcelona could be his next club, given that he would be joining as a free agent.

It is very much obvious that Chelsea would be looking to signing a top quality midfielder next season, especially if they don’t get to renew with Kante and Jorginho and De Jong would make the perfect signing for their new owner, Todd Boehly.

Meanwhile…

Atletico Madrid are said to be open to the idea of letting several players leave the club, especially Portuguese forward, Joao Felix, who has found it hard to break into the starting lineup lately.

The Los Rojiblancos elimination from the UEFA Champions League group stage will have severe financial implications to the club. The board believes that the performance this season is not responding to the quality of the team.

Therefore, the club are prepared to sell a few players in order to generate fresh revenue for the upcoming January transfer window. The report states that not even a single player in the club is considered ‘untouchable’, with the club prepared to offload anyone.

This means the club will be willing to study offers for any of their stars in the January transfer window, thus paving the way for players such as Joao Felix and Yannick Carrasco to seek a move away from the club. The likes of Mario Hermoso, Rodrigo De Paul and Saul Niguez are also not safe either following a lackluster performance so far this season.
