Niamh Charles Speaks On Importance Of Games Against Portugal And Spain Ahead Of Euros

England and Chelsea player, Niamh Charles says the Lionesses clash with Portugal and Spain in the UEFA Women’s Nations League is a veritable preparation for their Euros title defence later this year.

The Lionesses won their first ever Euros in 2022 at the expense of eight time winners, Germany.
Charles who recently returned from injury is back with the Lionesses ahead of their next two games.
“It’s definitely preparation for the Euros and the Nations League is really important to us,” Niamh told Sky Sports.

“There are some top teams. It really helped us for preparation for the Euros. In isolation, these games are also important.
“I think we have many good players here that every camp we have to prove ourselves and that is how it should be.”

Charles won the double with Chelsea the season after, for a third time in 2022/23, and has now fully established herself as a regular starter.
A fourth consecutive title followed in the 2023/24 season when Charles also made the WSL team of the year.
She suffered a dislocated shoulder in a pre-season friendly against Feyenoord, delaying her first competitive appearance under new coach Sonia Bompastor until December 2024.
