The England international was substituted for Martin Dubravka in the last minutes of Saturday’s 1-0 triumph over Manchester United after sustaining an injury in the latter moments of the match.

After the victory at S James’ Park, Eddie Howe gives a depressing report, speculating that the Magpies’ number one would need surgery.

The Daily Telegraph reports that preliminary evaluations indicate Pope may now be sidelined for the most of the 2023–24 campaign. After a five-month hiatus, he might make a comeback during the season, when Newcastle hopes to be competitive for big titles.

After the win over United, Howe told the BBC of his goalkeeper’s injury, saying, “It looks bad.” It appears to be a displacement.

‘He’s done it before and had it operated on and come back successfully. But I don’t know what the future holds for him, I don’t know if he will need an operation or not, but we will get it checked out and fingers crossed he will be back soon.’

Meanwhile…

Erik ten Hag is anxious to prevent Jadon Sancho from making a “empty gesture,” therefore Manchester United is apparently willing to accept a “significant loss” on him.

Sancho has a disruptive impact on the rest of United’s team, according to manager Ten Hag, who is determined to get rid of the winger.

This season, Sancho and Ten Hag had a nasty falling out, with the Dutchman publicly criticizing his player in the media for his lack of effort in practice. After spending £73 million on him in 2021, United is now willing to suffer a “significant loss” on the player in the January transfer window.
