Nottingham Forest Dealt Huge Blow Before West Ham Clash
Written By Albert Echatah
Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi is reportedly in a medically induced coma following emergency abdominal surgery.
More Details
This surgery was necessitated by a severe injury he sustained in the 88th minute of their recent 2-2 draw against Leicester City, where he collided with the goalpost while attempting to reach a cross.

After getting medical attention on the pitch, the striker seemed well enough to carry on. This allowed Forest to make their last two player changes, bringing on Jota Silva and Eliott Anderson.
However, it quickly became clear that Awoniyi was not actually fit to play. Since Forest had already used all their substitutions, he had to play through the end of the match while clearly struggling.
This situation resulted in Forest’s owner, Evangelos Marinakis, coming onto the field after the game to have a heated discussion with the head coach, Nuno Espirito Santo.
It sounds like Nottingham Forest shared some concerning news yesterday morning. They confirmed that Taiwo Awoniyi had to have emergency surgery on Monday night for an abdominal injury.

The Daily Mail is reporting that after the operation, Awoniyi has been put in a medically induced coma and is currently in intensive care. There’s a bit of positive news, though, as initial indications are that the surgery went well. He’s also scheduled for the second part of the procedure today, Wednesday.
Forest has issued a follow-up statement indicating their player is “recovering well,” despite the initial report acknowledging that the injury could be fatal in certain instances.
The extensive statement also elaborated on the reasons behind Marinakis’s decision to go onto the field and speak with Espirito Santo following Sunday’s draw against Leicester.
