NWFL Confirms Promoted, Relegated Clubs As 2022/2023 Season Kick-Off Set For September

The Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) after its 2022 Annual General Meeting (AGM)/ Congress on Saturday at Golden Tulip Hotel, Yenegoa, Bayelsa State has confirmed the promoted and relegated teams at various cadres of the league.

Sunshine Queens of Akure and Pelican Stars of Calabar has been relegated from the top-flight NWFL Premiership to the second-tier NWFL Championship ahead of the 2022/2023 season.
Sunshine Queens finished bottom of Group B at the end of the 2021/2022 NWFL Premiership season with 7 points from 12 games while Pelican Stars ended last season bottom of Group A with 4 points after 12 games.
The Congress also ratified the promotion of two (2) NWFL Championship clubs; Heartland Queens of Owerri and Ibom Angels of Uyo to the NWFL Premiership.
Heartland Queens gained promotion after finishing top of Group B at the end of the 2022 NWFL Championship in Ijebu Ode earlier this month with a perfect record of 15 points from five (5) games.

Ibom Angels on the other hand returned immediately to the NWFL Premiership after its relegation in the 2020/2021 season with eight (8) points from four (4) games in Group A.
The 2022/2023 NWFL Premiership season is therefore set to kick off on September 14, 2022, across the country in an abridged format.
The 14 teams were drawn into two groups of seven teams; Group A and B. The league will be concluded by the Super Six to decide the league winners just as Bayelsa Queens emerged as Champions last season in Benin City.

In the third tier NWFL Nationwide, four (4) clubs have gained promotion to the NWFL Championship after the conclusion of the league.

Lakeside Queens, Prince Kazeem Eletu Queens, Imo Strikers, and Delta Babes have secured promotion to the NWFL Championship ahead of the 2022/2023 season.
The teams will join Sunshine Queens, Pelican Stars, DreamStar Ladies, Oasis Ladies, Honey Badgers, Dannaz Ladies, Moje Queens, Kwara Ladies, and Crystal Stars in the NWFL Championship.
Royaltoms International FC and Beautiful Tours Angels were relegated to the NWFL Nationwide from the NWFL Championship.
