NWSL Decision Day: Playoff Seeding And Final Spot Up For Grabs
Written by Oluwaseun Oyediji
As the 2025 National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) regular season draws to a dramatic close, nearly every team still has something on the line heading into Decision Day this Sunday.
More Details
With the final playoff positions — and crucial seeding — set to be determined, only Kansas City Current and Washington Spirit have secured home-field advantage for the opening playoff round, sitting first and second respectively.
The race behind them remains wide open. Orlando Pride (No. 3) and Seattle Reign (No. 4) face off in a pivotal clash with the third seed at stake, while San Diego Wave (No. 5), Portland Thorns (No. 6), and Gotham FC (No. 7) all have a shot at hosting a playoff match depending on the day’s results.
Gotham FC will meet North Carolina Courage (No. 9) in a must-win encounter.
The Courage are fighting to leap above the playoff line, while Gotham look to avoid slipping into a tougher postseason path.
Whoever clinches the final No. 8 playoff seed — likely one of Gotham, Racing Louisville, or North Carolina — will face the daunting task of traveling to Kansas City to play the record-breaking Shield winners in next week’s quarterfinal.
