NWSL Expansion Sides Denver Summit And Boston Legacy Step Up Squad Building Ahead Of Preseason

As the National Women’s Soccer League preseason approaches, the league’s two newest clubs — Denver Summit FC and Boston Legacy FC — have continued to strengthen their inaugural rosters with major additions.

More Details

On Tuesday, Denver Summit FC confirmed the signing of US Youth National Team and CF Pachuca Femenil defender Ayo Oke for a reported $450,000 transfer fee, the highest ever paid for an incoming US national player.

The landmark deal underlines Denver’s ambition as they prepare for their first NWSL campaign.

Boston Legacy FC have also kept pace in the transfer market, announcing the arrival of Brazilian international defender Andressa “Kaká” Ferreira from Brazilian giants São Paulo FC.

Kaká, a Copa América Feminina winner with Brazil, joins as a free agent and adds international pedigree to Boston’s back line.

With the traditional NWSL expansion draft no longer in place, both clubs have taken an aggressive and strategic approach to squad building.

Denver have focused on adding league experience, bringing in established NWSL names such as Carson Pickett, Kaleigh Kurtz, Jordan Baggett, and the club’s first-ever signing, Ally Watt, to provide leadership and stability.

Boston, meanwhile, have leaned heavily into the international market, securing players with continental and global experience including Amanda Gutierres, Nicki Hernández, Laís Araújo, and now Kaká.

As Denver Summit FC and Boston Legacy FC continue to shape their identities, their early transfer activity signals clear intent: both clubs are determined to be competitive from day one in the NWSL.
