After their 2023 National Women Soccer League (NWSL) Championship win, Gotham FC apologized to fans in response to complaints about their lack of plans for a celebration back home.

More Details

Gotham originally didn’t plan for a fan celebration with players in the form of a rally or parade until the 2024 season.

The team will now hold a free trophy homecoming celebration at Red Bull Arena tonight for season ticket holders and supporters group members.

"We pledge to use the off-season to organize celebrations that befit a championship club and match the enthusiasm of the best fans in the world," Gotham said in a statement last week.

No NWSL team has been invited to the White House, and clubs need to create the world they want to see to celebrate a hard-earned win.

As the clock struck midnight today, the NWSL officially entered its free agency signing period for the 2024 season.

Unrestricted free agents can now sign with any team, while restricted free agents can field offers that can be matched by their home club.

There isn't a huge incentive for free agents to sign immediately, as being out of contract renders them unavailable in December's expansion draft.

Bay FC and the Utah Royals are free to sign players, as are the Orlando Pride, who now have expansion draft protection through trades.

Top unrestricted free agents include Crystal Dunn, Rose Lavelle, Emily Sonnett, and Mallory Swanson.
