The Current, sitting comfortably at the top of the standings, hold a 12-point lead over second-placed Washington Spirit — the league’s biggest top-table margin since North Carolina Courage finished 15 points clear in 2018.
Kansas City have combined defensive solidity with attacking firepower, leading the league in goals scored while conceding the fewest.
They enter the weekend with a record-tying five consecutive clean sheets.
Forward Temwa Chawinga has been central to the team’s charge, delivering another Most Valuable Player (MVP-caliber) season.

She leads the Golden Boot race with 11 goals in 17 matches and also ranks among the league’s top five in both shots and shots on target.
Teammate Michelle Cooper emphasized that Kansas City’s defensive unit deserves as much credit as the attack.

“Because we have such a powerful offense, the defensive things maybe people don’t notice as much,” Cooper said.
“But our back line’s commitment to little touches, angles, and blocking shots is absolutely important to our success.”
After finishing fourth in 2024, Kansas City have elevated their play on both ends of the pitch, and anything less than silverware this season would be seen as a disappointment.
