NWSL: Portland Thorns, Angel City FC Put Up An Entertaining Six-Goal Draw

Portland Thorns and Angel City FC played out a 3-3 draw in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) on Sunday at Providence Park, Portland, Oregon, United States.

It was the visitors (Angel City) that pulled the first trigger with the opening goal.

Alyssa Thompson’s right-footed shot from the left side of the box reached the bottom left corner in the 10th minute to open the scoring.

Two minutes after the half-hour mark, the host equalised.
Crystal Dunn was fouled inside the box by Julie Ertz resulting in a penalty in the 30th minute.

Hina Sugita converted the penalty with a left-footed shot to the bottom right corner.

Portland Thorns for the first time in the game took the lead in the 65th minute.
Morgan Weaver’s right-footed shot from the right side of the six-yard box hit the bottom right corner from Olivia Moultrie’s assist.

Nine minutes later, Natalia Kuikka’s own goal resulted in Angel City’s equaliser.

Julie Ertz who committed a foul leading to a goal redeemed herself in the 79th minute as she headed in Clarisse Le Bihan’s cross into the top left corner.

Bella Bixby in the additional minutes of the second half made it 3-3 with a left-footed shot from very close range to the bottom left corner.

Portland Thorns with the draw remained top of the table with 11 points after five games while Angel City FC seats in the ninth position with five points.

Orlando Pride recorded a 3-1 win over San Diego Wave in a surprising result of the weekend at the Snapdragon Stadium, in San Diego, California.

The Pride had to come from a goal down after Jaedyn Shaw had given the Wave a 12th-minute lead.

Mikayla Cluff’s header from the right side of the six-yard box to the centre of the goal equalised for Orlando Pride in the 26th minute.

Haley McCutcheon gave the visitors a deserved lead in the 42nd minute when she headed in from the centre of the box into the bottom left corner.

Adriana Leal’s 69th-minute goal sealed the 3-1 win for Orlando Pride which occupy the 12th position with three points.

San Diego Wave seats in the third position with nine points hoping to bounce back against Washington Spirit on May 6.
