The Portland Thorns won their third NWSL Championship over the Kansas City Current in a calm and confident 2-0 performance.
Portland is the first club to win three titles in NWSL history.
The Western New York Flash won in 2016 and two more as the North Carolina Courage, but the Thorns are the first to accomplish the feat as the same club.

Sophia Smith put Portland on the board early, beating AD Franch on a breakaway to take a 1-0 lead in just the fourth minute.
The Thorns extended their lead in the second half when Yazmeen Ryan forced an own goal by Kansas City defender Addisyn Merrick.
“What can I say? Unbelievable,” Portland head coach Rhian Wilkinson said of the way her young players stepped up.

After a tumultuous year, Portland’s distractions off the field would have been enough to warrant a full collapse, Wilkinson acknowledged after the game.
