NWSL Prepares For The Olympic Break — And Beyond
Written by Oluwaseun Oyediji
After months of conjecture, the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) announced Wednesday that Kansas City will indeed host the 2024 NWSL Championship at team-owned CPKC Stadium.
More Details
The game will take place on Saturday, November 23rd, capping off the league’s newly expanded eight-team postseason format.
The stadium’s 11,500-person capacity will bring the game’s total possible attendance down from last year’s record 25,011 fans in San Diego — but that also means a sellout crowd is almost guaranteed.
With the Championship creeping closer by the day, this upcoming NWSL match weekend will be the final opportunity for teams to move up in the standings until the Paris Olympics conclude.
After this weekend’s action, the NWSL’s regular season won’t reconvene until August 23rd, though the league will participate in the inaugural NWSL x Liga MX Femenil Summer Cup starting July 19th.
The Paris-bound United States Women's National Team (USWNT) will head off to camp next week, gearing up for two send-off matches (July 13th and 16th) before traveling to France to begin their Olympic journey.
CPKC Stadium will find itself hosting another major event this Saturday, as the first-place KC Current takes on fellow undefeated side Orlando.
The Kansas City Current and the Orlando Pride are tied atop the league standings in both points and goal differential, with Kansas City riding a slim edge via goals scored.
Meanwhile…
Kansas City striker Temwa Chawinga and Pride forward Barbra Banda are also tied atop the NWSL Golden Boot race with 11 goals apiece on the season thus far.
A win for either side would put an end to a historic unbeaten streak — and give one team a crucial points advantage when the league restarts in August.

While all eyes will surely be glued to the top of the table this weekend, other clubs will be pushing to solidify their spots above the playoff line.
Racing Louisville could leap into the top eight with a win over the surging North Carolina Courage on Sunday, who have risen to sixth place on a three-game unbeaten streak.
San Diego will be eager for a win after a big loss to Chicago last weekend, but opponent Portland will likewise be looking for a victory on Friday after a three-game winless streak.
And on Saturday, both Gotham and Washington will be attempting to keep pace near the table's upper echelons, with the Bats taking on Angel City and the Spirit facing a refreshed-looking Bay FC.
