NWSL: Sophia Smith Shrugs Off The Doubters

After giving Portland an early lead, she shrugged to the camera in celebration.
After the match, Smith told the media that the celebration was less of an homage to Michael Jordan and more of a personal message.
“There’s been a lot of people who don’t think I deserved to win [league] MVP,” Smith said after the match, “So that was a little bit of, ‘That’s that.’”

For her contributions, Smith was also named MVP of the title game.
“Her pace is lethal,” Current midfielder Desiree Scott said. “You can’t grow that. That is just natural talent.”
