NWSL Unveils 2026 Season Schedule as 16-Team Era Takes Shape

The 2026 NWSL schedule has been officially released, marking another milestone for the expanding league as it prepares for a landmark season featuring 16 teams, 248 regular-season matches, seven playoff games, and a standalone Challenge Cup.

More Details

The new campaign will kick off on March 13, with clubs navigating a 30-match regular season.

A midseason break is scheduled from June 1 to June 28, followed by Rivalry Week in July and a simultaneous kick-off Decision Day on November 1, when all teams will play at the same time.

Matches throughout the season will be broadcast across a wide range of platforms, including ESPN, Prime Video, ION, CBS, NWSL+, and the newly introduced free streaming service Victory+, further expanding access to the league’s growing fanbase.

One of the notable changes from the league’s previously announced framework is the relocation of the 2026 Challenge Cup to a neutral venue. The season-opening trophy match will be played on June 26 in Columbus, Ohio, at the stadium of MLS side Columbus Crew.

Reigning NWSL champions NJ/NY Gotham FC will take on NWSL Shield winners Kansas City Current in the showcase event.

According to the league, the neutral-site format is designed to give local fans “the opportunity to experience elite women’s soccer in person at this celebratory showcase event.”

The three-round playoff series will begin on November 6, culminating in the 2026 NWSL Championship on November 21, bringing the season to a close.

With expansion complete, increased broadcast coverage, and a packed competitive calendar, the 2026 season is shaping up to be one of the most ambitious and high-profile campaigns in NWSL history.
