Benzema had to leave Saturday’s session and was quickly ruled out of France’s opener against Australia, but it looks like the injury will force him to miss the tournament.
The attacker had been nursing muscle fatigue for the last few weeks, but this injury appears to be a new, more serious problem for him.
This is devastating news for the attacker after winning the 2022 Ballon D’Or, even more so considering that this will almost certainly be his last chance of being a relevant player for France during a FIFA World Cup.
Regarding the circumstance, and specifically Benzema’s, Deschamps stated that the rest of the team would make every effort to defend the championship despite the forward’s absence.
“I am very sad for Karim, who had made this World Cup an important goal. Despite this new blow, I have full confidence in my group. We will do everything we can to overcome the enormous challenge that awaits us,” the coach was quoted by MARCA.

Meanwhile…
Real Madrid defender Jesus Vallejo has been training with Real Madrid Castilla for the last few days and will keep doing so during this World Cup break.
Vallejo wants to stay in good form during the break so that he’s ready in case he’s needed in the first few games after the World Cup.
Vallejo is the team’s fifth center-back in the depth chart and it’s quite clear that his first few chances to feature in the lineup could come during the first few matches in the Copa del Rey. Ancelotti will be expected to make heavy rotations in those games and Vallejo could get a chance to play then.
