“We regret to confirm that we are parting ways. For the well-being of our children, who are our highest priority, we ask that you respect their privacy. Thank you for your understanding.” Read the joint statement released by Shakira’s communication agency.

Pique and Shakira first met in 2010 at the FIFA World Cup where Shakira sang the official FIFA theme song for that year’s World Cup.

They had two sons together namely Milan and Sasha but have now both agreed to call it quits after twelve years together.

Reports from Spain have it that the 35 year old defender was caught in bed cheating on his partner which resulted in him being kicked out of the family apartment according to Spanish outlet El Periodico.

He’s reported to have been living in a bachelor pad for a few weeks after the incident and has been clubbing frequently with teammate Riqui Puig.

Shakira in one of her latest hits “Te Felicitous” first hinted at a crack between the two with the lyrics of that song suggesting a problem between the two.

“To complete you I broke into pieces; I was warned, but I didn’t listen; I realised that yours is false; it was the drop that overflowed the glass; Don’t tell me you’re sorry, that sounds sincere, but I know you well and I know you’re lying.”

35 year old Pique has been one of the most successful footballers around but same cannot be said of his private life as he’s often involved in controversies away from the football pitch.

Meanwhile…

Arsenal have been told they’ll need to cough out more than £40m if they want to sign Sassuolo forward Gianluca Scamacca according to the Mirror.

The 23 year old had a breakthrough year in Serie A last season where he scored 16 goals to earn himself wide range applaud.

Arsenal are on the lookout for a new striker following the departure of Pierre Emerick Aubameyang to Barcelona in January while Alexandre Lacazette has been confirmed to leave the club at the end of this month.

Scamacca has previously spoken of staying in Italy as his priority but did not entirely rule out a move abroad. The Gunners will now have to work to convince the young Italian sensation to consider moving abroad.

“I think my priority now is to make my mark in Italy. Having said that, the transfer market is somewhat unpredictable. When the time comes to make a decision, I’ll try to make the best one. Serie A is of a very high level and my priority is to continue here. Others will then evaluate and we’ll see what happens.”
