Roberto Mancini just under two weeks after leaving his Italian national team job has been officially named the coach of Saudi Arabia national football team.
“A tape of memories after which the journey of writing history begins with Al-Akhdar.” read the welcome statement on the official national team website.
The 58 year old according to Italian journalist Nicolo Schira has signed a three year deal worth €25m annually.
Mancini has tasted success at both club and international level with his latest achievement being the triumph at Euro 2020.

Mancini is relishing the opportunity to relish football in a new environment and hailed the growing popularity of the game in Asia.
“I believe this is a great opportunity for me, to experience football in a new country, especially with the growing popularity of football in Asia.” He said at his unveiling.

Federation President Yasser Al Miseha expressed his delight at having the experienced coach around.
“Roberto believes in Saudi football and our desire to develop top competitive players and take them to new heights on the world stage – including the Asian Cup in Qatar and qualification for the 2026 World Cup.”

Mancini begins his tenure next month at St. James’ Park when Al Akhdar take on Costa Rica in an international friendly game.
