Former German teammates Joao Klauss and Sergio Cordova provided Owusu with information on the MLS. Former Hoffenheim player Klauss currently plays for St. Louis City SC, and former Arminia Bielefeld player Cordova now wears the Vancouver Whitecaps' colors.

"But I want to make my own history, build my own legacy here," Owusu said.

"It's just me," he said. "Of course, social media makes it a little bit easier — the phone calls and everything, FaceTime.

"I love to take risks," he added. "And when I take risks, I do it at 100 per cent. So I decided (to make the move) and will do it on my own … I think it will be a good time here for here and I'm looking forward (to it)."

"I love deep runs," he said. "When I'm in front of the goal I don't think much. I just do it. I don't get stressed quickly. And I think that's part of my quality. Because if you're a striker, you always have to have cold, calm mind in every situation. Because as a striker you can score any time, any second."

Owusu claims he is prepared to make his debut on Sunday when Toronto hosts CF Montreal following a three-week break.

The 26-year-old, who formerly played for German Second Division side SSV Jahn Regensburg, where Canadian international defender Scott Kennedy is a member, joins the team on a free transfer after scoring 10 goals in 34 appearances for the team last season.

Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami have reportedly received an invitation to compete in the upcoming Copa Libertadores.

The invitation, according to journalist Hugo Balassone, was issued at CONMEBOL’s request by Chiqui Tapia, head of the Argentine Football Association.

This yearly event, which was first held in 1960, is commonly regarded as the highest level of club football competition in South America.
