After a board meeting involving Daniel Levy and Fabio Paratici where it was revealed Nuno was never Spurs’ first choice, the club following the embarrassing loss to Manchester United which came as the final straw to Santo’s disappointing time in charge, Tottenham have released an official statement confirming his dismissal.

“The club can today announce that Nuno Espirito Santo and his coaching staff Ian Cathro, Rui Barbosa and Antonio Dias have been relieved of their duties.

“A further coaching update will follow in due course.”

Spurs are eighth on the log which is a far cry from the standard expected of a club of Tottenham’s status. Twenty goals were scored under the former Porto manager while they leaked twenty three in return for a return of minus one under his tutelage.

Tottenham are also a disappointing third in their Europa Conference League table with just four points from a possible nine and are already out of the Carabao cup at this early stage of the season.

A section of the Tottenham fans booed Nuno’s decision to replace Lucas Moura with Steven Bergwijn in the loss to Manchester United while others chanted “we want Levy out.”

Fabio Paratici, Managing Director, Football, said: “I know how much Nuno and his coaching staff wanted to succeed and I regret that we have had to take this decision.

“Nuno is a true gentleman and will always be welcome here. We should like to thank him and his coaching staff and wish them well for the future.”

After announcing the departure of Nuno Espírito Santo, Spurs have immediately started the hunt for a new manager and have reportedly been in contact with former Inter Milan boss, Antonio Conte.
