It was a night of celebration and resilience at Providence Park as the Portland Thorns claimed a hard-fought 2–1 win over Bay FC on Saturday evening, keeping their push for a home playoff spot alive in front of a passionate crowd of 21,104 fans.

More Details

Before kickoff, the Thorns paid tribute to club legend Christine Sinclair, who became the first player inducted into the Portland Thorns Hall of Fame.

In a historic moment, Sinclair’s iconic No. 12 jersey was officially retired.

The Canadian forward, who captained the Thorns through their most successful era, leaves behind a remarkable legacy — 237 NWSL appearances, 82 goals, and multiple trophies, including three league titles (2013, 2017, 2022), two NWSL Shields (2016, 2021), and a Challenge Cup (2021).

After the emotional pre-match ceremony, Bay FC drew first blood in the 36th minute, when Taylor Huff slotted home a low finish into the bottom corner.

Portland goalkeeper Mackenzie Arnold was called into action moments later, making a key fingertip save to prevent the visitors from doubling their lead before halftime.

The Thorns came out revitalized after the break and found their equalizer in the 55th minute. Captain Sam Coffey drove forward and set up Olivia Moultrie, who calmly fired past the Bay goalkeeper.

Moultrie wasn’t done yet — in the 69th minute, she delivered a moment of brilliance, curling a direct free kick into the bottom corner to complete her brace and secure all three points for Portland. The 19-year-old became the youngest player in club history to score twice in a single match.

From there, the Thorns defense held firm, fending off Bay’s late pressure to secure their first home victory since August 10, snapping a three-game winless streak at Providence Park.
