Olympic Champions Rattle The Track And Field At Hengelo

World and Olympic Champions took wins and created meet and world leading records at the Continental Tour Gold meet in Hengelo on Monday.

Olympic Women 1500m winner, Faith Kipyegon took the reins of the women’s 800m in Hengelo, winning in a Season’s Best (SB) of 2:00.36.
She outran World Champion Halimah Nakaayi of Uganda who finished second in 2:00.87, just enough to hold off a fast-closing Catriona Bisset of Australia,who posted 2:00.90 for third.

“I came here for the speed for my 1500m and also for a good time. Unfortunately circumstances for a fast time were not perfect. I will come back here and push for a faster time.” Faith said after the race.
In other track events, Daryll Neita won the women’s 100m with 11.19 (0.8) to beat Tynia Gaither who clocked 11.23s to come second and Brit Imani Lansiquot who was third with 11.26.
Former world champion, Yohan Blake grabbed first big victory of the year in the men’s 100m in 10.11s (-0.3), ahead of Kyree King in second with 10.23s and Emile Erasmus in 10.25s.
Olympic bronze 400m hurdles medallist Femke Bol started her season on a high in the presence of home crowd winning with a Meet Record (MR) of 53.94s, well ahead of Anna Ryzhykova in second who clocked 55.62s and Jessie Knight with 55.81s for third.
Eilish McColgan of Britain ran a world lead and Personal Best (PB) of 30:19.02 to defeat World Record holder Letesenbet Gidey of Ethiopia who was second in 30:44.27 (SB) and Ejgayehu Taye of Ethiopia in 30:44.68.
Ugandan and Olympic Champion Peruth Chemutai won the 3000m steeplechase event clocking 9:14.00.
Chemutai came first with a time of 9:14.00 while Albanian Luiza Gega (11.23) and Great Britain’s Imani-Lara Lansiquot (11.26 SB) took the silver and bronze slots respectively.

In the field event, Pole Vault Champion, Mondo Duplantis jumps a World Lead of 6.01.
“This is my second home. Hengelo is a perfect place to jump. The track is fast, the run-up is well situated, the wind is nearly always good, but mother nature just was not in a good mood today.” Duplantis said.

Chase Ealey of the USA threw a big Personal Best (PB) and World Lead (WL) of 19.98m to win the women’s Shot Put event, beating World Indoor Champion Auriol Dongmo of Portugal who was second with a season best of 19.68m and Sarah Mitton in third with 19.24m.
World champion Anderson Peters got another victory and another performance over 90m in the javelin throw after leading the FBK Game with a meeting record of 90.75m. Julian Weber (89.54m) and Keshorn Walcott (89.07m) occupy the second and third spot.
Malaika Mihambo won the long jump event after a jump of 6.65m.
