One Final Hurdle Left Before Inter Concludes Their First Business In This January Transfer Window
Yesterday, while much of the focus was on Inter Milan’s 3-1 win over Bologna at the San Siro to reclaim their position as league leaders, a couple of issues almost went under the radar, relating to the transfer market as the winter transfer window is already underway.
More Details
The first surrounds Portugal defender, whom has been heavily linked with a move to two of his former clubs in Europe, Inter and Barcelona and yesterday, before the game kicked off, Inter President, Beppe Marotta confirmed what was already known, that the club is actively trying to get the player.

The second one is concerning Italian midfielder, Davide Frattesi who has been linked with a move away from Inter even in the last summer transfer window as he looks for more playing time in order to boost his chances of going to the World Cup but Galatasaray have come out to deny the reports that they’re trying to sign him.
As for Cancelo, reports in Italy claim that Inter now have an agreement in place with Al-Hilal over a deal for the full-back which involves a current Nerazzurri defender moving in the opposite direction but it’s still not clear who it will be between Francesco Acerbi and Stefan de Vrij.
The Nerazzurri have been on the lookout for a new wing-back to add to Cristian Chivu’s ranks following the long-term injury to Denzel Dumfries and they have been linked with a move for their former loanee, Cancelo, who could leave Al-Hilal this month and has also attracted interest from Barcelona.
According to updates from Sky Sport Italia today, Inter have a verbal agreement with Al-Hilal over a deal for Cancelo and the deal would reportedly involve a player moving in the opposite direction. That would bring a reunion with former Nerazzurri head coach Simone Inzaghi.
The next step for Inter is to get Cancelo himself to agree to the move. The 31-year-old has reportedly asked for another day or two to make up his mind as the report claims that Cancelo’s preferred move would be a return to Barcelona, but it remains to be seen whether the Blaugrana will be able to come to an agreement with Al-Hilal.
The Blaugrana’s financial situation is well documented, hence, they would need to at least sell or offload one player to be able to afford and accommodate Cancelo in their squad but with time running out, he will have a make a decision quickly as Inter would like to focus on other targets as quickly as possible.

In a related development, Napoli winger David Neres is a big risk approaching the huge Serie A clash between Inter and the Partenopei, a match which could be a potential title decider after picking up an ankle injury during his side’s 2-0 victory against Lazio over the weekend.
Neres, who has six goals and an assist in his last 10 starts across all competitions, was forced to withdraw midway through the second half of Napoli’s 2-0 win against Lazio on Sunday as the Brazilian went down off the ball after playing a routine pass to Stanislav Lobotka while on the pitch.
He needed assistance from two members of the medical staff while making his way off the pitch, and was wincing in pain each time he had to put any weight on his left foot as he had clutched his ankle immediately after going to ground, and it has since been confirmed by Sky Sport Italia that he has suffered a sprain to that left ankle.

The injury means that he will be ruled out of the midweek Serie A clash between Napoli and Hellas Verona on Wednesday evening. It is now a race against time for him to be fit enough to feature against the league-leading Inter in San Siro on Sunday, adding to Antonio Conte’s growing injury worries.
