The Nerazzurri again fell flat in a preseason friendly as they got undone by Spanish side Villarreal in Pescara.
Simone Inzaghi’s men lacked the usual mobility and cutting edge synonymous with the team from last season.
Inzaghi’s defence looks the weakest link yet again as they once again proved unorganized by allowing the Yellow Submarines to put four goals past them.
Inter failed to keep any clean sheet in five preseason games and only ended on the winning side once which came against lowly Lugano.
A 2-2 draw against Monaco was followed by a 0-1 defeat to Lens after which they battled to another 2-2 draw against Lyon before being exposed by Villarreal.
If the unconvincing results from the preseason friendlies are not enough signs, the uncertainty surrounding the futures of some core members of Inzaghi’s team should be.
Milan Skriniar and Denzel Dumfries are still subject of transfers away from the club while the expected sale of Andrea Pinamonti is still hanging coupled with the contract termination for Alexis Sanchez which has held the club hostage for a while.
A replacement for Andrea Ranocchia is still to be brought in while the fitness of Robin Gosens has made the Nerazzurri sweat recently.
The case was made worse on Saturday as news came that Marcelo Brozovic picked up an injury in training, the club however said it’s just a minor case and nothing serious.
It was the Croatian’s absence last season after the games against Liverpool in the Champions League that cost Inter the Scudetto as they failed to win a single game while he was away.
Fans hope that the club hierarchy would act swiftly accordingly while Inzaghi apply finishing touches where lacking.
Meanwhile…
Simone Inzaghi was interviewed by InterTV after the game and he highlighted the weaknesses of his team as he answered questions of the press.
“Sunday we start, we knew about the difficulty of the race. We alternated good things, we have to do better in the defensive phase. They arrived 5 times in the area and scored 4 goals, something needs to be seen again. We were playing against a team that made the Champions League semi-finals and is ahead of preparation, we still have to work.”

“Surely, it was a challenging test like the other facts. We realised that we are in a good condition but we still have to work.”
Asked what aspect needs focusing on the Italian replied: “The workloads will go down, on Saturday we will debut and we will arrive in the best conditions”
Inter begin their campaign away to Lecce on Saturday and Inzaghi and his boys will be out to prove a point.
