Opening Day Delight As Records Were Broken With New Ones Set

Written by Jacobs Dunga

It was an opening day to remember in the Premier League as teams began hostilities towards different ambitions in a difficult and hectic next eight long months.

Brentford, after donkey years, are finally back to the Premier League and their return is marked by an important victory over Arsenal. More importantly they shut out the gunners and that could be pivotal for them going into the season in full.

More Details…

From Sergi Canos becoming the first Brentford player to score in the top flight since Len Townsend in May 1947 against Sunderland. He also became the first Spaniard to score the first goal in a Premier League season since Michu for Swansea in 2012/13 to Everton winning a Premier League match after trailing at half-time for the first time in 53 attempts, since September 2015, drawing six and losing the other 46 of the previous such encounters. Ancient, isn’t it?

PREMIER LEAGUE

Paul Pogba became the seventh Premier League player to assist four goals in a single match, after Dennis Bergkamp, Jose Antonio Reyes, Cesc Fabregas, Emmanuel Adebayor, Santi Cazorla and Harry Kane while At 1min 42 secs, James Tarkowski’s goal for Burnley is the fastest scored on the opening weekend of a Premier League campaign since Alexandre Lacazette’s strike against Leicester in 2017/18 (1m 34s). Precision at its best.

Marcos Alonso’s strike was Chelsea’s 50th direct free-kick goal in Premier League history, with only Man Utd (64) netting more in the competition while Only Frank Lampard, Wayne Rooney and Alan Shearer, with eight, have scored more goals on the opening weekend of Premier League campaigns than the seven of Leicester’s Jamie Vardy. That’s predatory you would say.

Nuno Espirito Santo has won three Premier League encounters against City under Pep Guardiola (previously twice with Wolves); the joint-most of any coach, along with Jurgen Klopp, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Jose Mourinho. Of all players to have scored 50+ Premier League goals, only Luis Suarez (12/69 – 17.4 per cent v Norwich) has scored a higher share of his goals in the competition against one club than Callum Wilson has versus West Ham (9/54 – 16.7 per cent). Kryptonite!!!

Watford’s Cucho Hernandez became the first Colombian player to score on his Premier League debut, with his strike coming only 49 seconds after coming off the bench while Roberto Firmino’s goal was the 49th scored by a substitute for Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp in the Premier League, the most of any side in the competition since the German joined in 2015. Effectiveness.

Meanwhile…

The Premier League big guns dominated the team of the week as Liverpool has two players in Allison and Mohammed Salah who scored one and assisted two against Norwich while Chelsea has two as well with young defensive sensation Trevoh Chalobah joining experiences during left back Marcos Alonso on the team.

Man United is well represented by the duo of hat trick hero Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba who had a haul of assist in their opening game. Man City is the only team from last season’s top four not to have a single representative but Spurs who finished sixth last term are duly represented by Tanganga and Son.

Brentford’s Pinnock after a solid performance against Arsenal partners Chalobah at the back while Benrahma did well for West Ham to make the team with Richardson completing the front three alongside Son and Salah.

Frank after seeing off Arsenal with his team was named coach of the week in a star packed line up.
