On Monday, San Diego FC confirmed the loan acquisition of highly-rated defender Oscar Verhoeven from the San Jose Earthquakes through the 2025 MLS campaign.

$100,000 General Allocation Money (GAM) has been given to the Earthquakes in exchange for the 18-year-old US youth international.



The agreement includes a sell-on percentage and a buy option in return for 2026 GAM.

In addition to playing 36 games at their MLS NEXT Pro affiliate, the right defender has made nine appearances for San Jose’s first squad. At the FIFA U-17 World Cup in 2023, he played for the United States.

“We’re pleased to welcome Oscar to San Diego as we continue to add competition to our group,” said SDFC sporting director Tyler Heaps.

“He is a high potential fullback and strong competitor that we believe will benefit from being in our environment as he continues to develop.”

Verhoeven joins Willy Kumado and Jasper Löffelsend on the depth chart for the expansion team in San Diego.

Along with Franco Negri and Hamady Diop, they also have 18-year-old left back Luca Bombino on loan from LAFC.
