With a strong showing in heat 6, Nigerian sprinter Favour Ofili has progressed to the women’s 200m semifinals at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
Ofili, who was given the nickname “Star Girl,” won her heat with a time of 22.24 seconds. She finished ahead of Gina Bass-Bittaye of The Gambia, who came in third at 22.84 seconds, and Dina Asher-Smith of Great Britain, who came in second with a time of 22.28 seconds.
With many expressing their enthusiasm and belief in Ofili’s ability to win a medal, Nigerians have erupted in celebration over her achievement. Reactions on social media show how proud the country is of her performance.

Supporters bemoaned the potential lost in the 100-meter event owing to administrative problems and commended her for overcoming what they saw to be a difficult race.
Many praised her accomplishment on Twitter and vented their annoyance at the Nigerian Olympic Committee (NOC) and the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) for their mistakes in registering her for the 100 meters.
