United States Women’s National Team (USWNT) edged Japan 1-0 in the quarter-final of the women’s football tournament of the Paris 2024 Olympics on Saturday.

Trinity Rodman scored the winning goal in additional time of extra time at the Parc Des Princes, Paris, to put the record World and Olympics champions into the semi-finals.
Alyssa Naeher, Emily Fox, Naomi Girma, Emily Sonnett, Crystal Dunn, Korbin Albert, Rose Lavelle, Lindsey Horan, Trinity Rodman, Mallory Swanson, and Sophia Smith started for Emma Hayes’s side.
Ayaka Yamashita, Moeka Minami, Hikaru Kitagawa, Saki Kumagai, Toko Koga, Fuka Nagano, Yui Hasegawa, Miyabi Moriya, Aoba Fujino, Mina Tanaka, and Kiko Seike started for the Asian side.

With both sides not separated after 90 minutes despite USWNT’s lion’s share of ball possession, the game went into extra time.
In the additional minutes of the extra time, Rodman, who has the highest number of goals contributions at this Olympics, scored the winner.

USWNT maintained their perfect record at the Paris 2024 Olympics with five wins out of five games.
They will face the winner of the match between Canada and Germany in the semi-final.
They have already thrashed Germany 4-1 in the group stage.
