Paris 2024: USWNT Claim Record Extending Fifth Gold In Women’s Football As Brazil’s Marta Bows Out

The United States Women’s National Team (USWNT) edged Brazil 1-0 to win their fifth gold medal in women’s football at the Paris 2024 Olympics on Saturday.

The record World and Olympics champions had won all their previous five games at the Olympics without conceding with a huge battle against the South American champions which they have beat twice in the final of two previous Olympics.

Ludmilla had the first chance of the game but his tame effort was saved by Allyssa Naeher.

Mallory Swanson also forced Lorena to a save with another tame effort.

Naeher continued to impress in the first half with a save before the USWNT recovered.



Ludmilla though she had broke the deadlock for Arthur Elias side but her goal was ruled out for an offside.

12 minutes into the second half, Korbin Albert pass located Swanson who scored the winner.

They missed several chances of increasing the lead before Brazil surged forward in search of a leveler.

Naeher saved late on to prevent an equaliser as USWNT held on for their record fifth extending gold medal.

Emma Hayes who took the team to the Olympics as her first tournament since joining from Chelsea FC won her first title.

The victory ended USWNT disappointing run at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup where they crashed out in the Round of 16, the team’s worst performance at the tournament.

Brazil on the other hand lost a third straight gold medal match at the Olympics to the same opponents as Marta played her last match for the team.
