Following Chelsea’s surprising 3-0 victory over Paris Saint-Germain in the Club World Cup final on Sunday, Chelsea forward Joao Pedro suggested that PSG “lost their heads” due to frustration.

More Details

Pedro himself was involved in a post-match incident with PSG coach Luis Enrique. The match, played at MetLife Stadium in New York, saw heavily favored PSG, the Champions League winners, unexpectedly defeated by Chelsea.

Tensions were high throughout the game, culminating in PSG’s Joao Neves receiving a red card for pulling Marc Cucurella’s hair.

After the game, more fights broke out on the field, involving staff from both teams. The most serious incident seemed to be between Chelsea goalscorer Joao Pedro and Enrique, but neither of them gave many details about what happened.

“I don’t need to talk about them,” said Joao Pedro. “Everyone wants to win the game and, in the end, I think they lost their heads.

“But this is football. This has happened. Now we need to enjoy it because we won the tournament, that’s it.

“I don’t want to talk too much about them because you know how it works. Football is this.”

For his part, Enrique said he was trying to separate players and prevent a heated situation from becoming worse.

A confrontation involving Joao Pedro, Gianluigi Donnarumma, and Achraf Hakimi escalated until Enrique stepped in. During his intervention, Enrique seemed to raise an arm, and Joao Pedro subsequently fell to the ground amidst the commotion.
