More Details

After returning from a brief loan stint at Aston Villa, Reina has played a rotating role in between the sticks at Lazio for the past two seasons.

At the conclusion of the 2021–2022 season, the 39-year-contract old’s in Rome was automatically extended, although the former Liverpool goalkeeper is eager to leave.

Diario AS says that Villarreal has identified Reina as the best candidate to succeed departing Sergi Asenjo at the Estadio de la Ceramica.

Given that Reina’s extension was triggered by a pre-arranged clause with the club and that he earns a high salary for a squad player in the Italian capital, Lazio are willing to let Reina leave on a free transfer.

Between 2002 and 2005, Reina had a productive run with the Yellow Submarine before moving on to Anfield for an eight-season stay in Merseyside.

The brief time of Serge Aurier at Villarreal is over. The Ivorian international was signed back in October on a free but the Yellow Submarine have not seen fit to give him a longer deal, as was announced on their official site.

Unai Emery’s side could have extended the deal unilaterally via an option in the contract, but have decided against doing so.

Aurier was always likely to be a depth signing for Villarreal as they signed Juan Foyth, also previously of Tottenham, to occupy the right-back spot this season. Captain Mario Gaspar was also competing for minutes.
