Pep’s Grealish Verdict: Play More Or Leave?
Written By Albert Echatah
Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola has stated that it would be best for Jack Grealish to play frequently somewhere else, but he has not ruled out the chance of him staying at club for the upcoming season.

The fact that the 29-year-old was left out of the Citizens’ 27-man squad for the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States this summer cast doubt on his future.

Grealish, who played a key part in the team’s historic 2022–2023 treble-winning campaign, joined Man City four years ago for a British record £100 million from his boyhood club Aston Villa.
But after failing to consistently make the desired impression when called upon in the final third, Grealish was unable to build on that success and has since slid down the hierarchy under Guardiola.
Grealish played just four minutes in Man City’s final seven Premier League games during a period when the Citizens were vying for a Champions League berth, and he was limited to just seven Premier League starts last season.
Grealish still has two years left on his Etihad Stadium deal, but he and Man City are amenable to splitting ways this summer, with a loan or permanent departure being discussed.
As speculation about Grealish’s future continues, he has been enjoying the weather on vacation overseas as Man City prepares for their first Club World Cup group-stage match against Wydad AC on Wednesday.

During a news conference prior to the game, Guardiola stated that “honest” discussions between Grealish and the club led to the decision to exclude him from his team.
“Jack is an exceptional player. The only reason why he didn’t play last season is of course my decisions. We decide that he has to play. The club was honest, he was honest.
“We decide the best is to stay [behind] and have a place that he can feel like he can come back to be the player like he was in the year of the treble or all his career in Aston Villa.
“The fact is in the last two seasons he didn’t play much minutes. He has to come back to play and have the butterflies in his stomach that he can play every three days, every three days and show again the quality he has.”
