English goalkeeper Ellie Roebuck is of the view that joining European champions FC Barcelona ahead of the 2024/2025 season is the right move at the right time for her career.

The Catalan side completed the signing of Roebuck on a two-year deal this week.

She will stay with the Spanish League winners till 2026 to her delight.

“I am excited. I have been waiting for this opportunity for a long time. I am very happy to be here,” Roebuck said after completing her switch.

“You could say that everything has now fallen into place, it was the perfect time to come. I wanted to challenge myself and what greater place to do it.”

With Barca's possessive style of football, Roebuck who joined from the English Women's Super League (WSL) side, Manchester City hopes to contribute her quota to her new team.

She said: "I like to play with the ball at my feet and this is the perfect team to do that with. I enjoy possession and playing out from the back, so I hope to contribute my style."

Roebuck joined Manchester City after her youth career with another English outfit, Sheffield United.

Barcelona players had initially agreed on a €40,000 bonus per player for winning the UEFA Women's Champions League (UWCL).

However, after their 2-0 victory the President of the Club Johan Laporta doubled the bonus to €80,000 per player to acknowledge their accomplishment.

The players appreciated the President's gesture after claiming their second European title.

Goals from Aitana Bonmati and Alexia Putellas lifted the Spanish side to the 2023/2024 UWCL title against record winners Lyon at the Estadio San Mames, Bilbao.

They will play next season's UWCL alongside Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid which finished in the top three places at the end of the league.
