The 31 year old Italian spent three successful but controversial years at the Etihad playing under his former coach at Inter Milan in Roberto Mancini.

Foden joined the Manchester City academy in 2009 aged nine and after just one year with the City academy, he was asked by an Italian journalist while on a trip with the rest of the academy boys about his opinion on his club’s new senior striker of Italian descent.

He simply asked: “What is your opinion about Mario Balotelli?”

Foden was blunt as he said in reply: “He’s a good player, but he’s got a bad attitude off the pitch.”

He would go on to score thirty goals in eighty appearances for City in all competitions before returning to Italy with Inter’s city rivals, AC Milan.

Foden has since moved up the ladder and become one of City’s most important players with disciplinary issues of his own too.

His agent Kia Joorabchian revealed: “When we set out in January to ask Barcelona that we’d like to move, the Premier League it was, we weren’t really considering other leagues,” Joorabchian told talkSPORT.

“This is a league that he’s feeling most comfortable in, he really wanted to come back, he misses it.

“He played in the Bundesliga, he had a great season and won the Champions League, won the league, he had a great experience in the Bundesliga, he’s had a good experience in LaLiga, won multiple leagues, cups. “But ultimately the Premier League, the intensity and the way the game is played here, that’s the way that he wants to move forward.”
