With 25 goals, the most prolific total of his Etihad career to date, and 11 assists, Foden has had his best season to date, helping City in its pursuit of a sixth title in seven years.

After winning the FIFA Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup earlier this season, Pep Guardiola’s team is still very much in the running to win the FA Cup and the Premier League. Foden, 23, has been the engine of City’s incredible run throughout the year.

The Academy graduate has also filled a range of roles for Guardiola’s club, showcasing his exceptional ability to play both a more central creative role and be deployed elsewhere.

This most recent accolade follows Foden’s election earlier this month as the 2023–24 Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year.

“To win this award is an achievement that I am extremely proud of,” Foden said.

“The Premier League is acknowledged as the greatest league in the world, and it is a pleasure to have been nominated with so many other great players who have all enjoyed special seasons for their clubs. Overall, I’ve been very happy with the way I have played this season and really pleased that I have been able to contribute with the goals and assists throughout the season.

“I’d like to thank all of the City staff, coaches and especially my teammates because without them this wouldn’t be possible. And I would also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who voted for me as the award means a lot.”

According to reports, Premier League clubs have approved the introduction of a development plan that will curb spending beginning with the 2025–2026 season.

The spending cap proposals were approved by 16 teams, and their goal is to keep the gap between the Premier League’s lower-half teams and its financial titans from growing.

Nevertheless, a report from BBC Sport claims that three teams vying for European football—Manchester United, Manchester City, and Aston Villa—are thought to have voted against the proposal.
