The 18-year-old’s contract has a 2028 option and expires after the 2027 MLS season. Vazquez’s homegrown priority was previously purchased by the Union from the LAFC and the LA Galaxy.

“David is a highly intelligent player with positional versatility,” sporting director Ernst Tanner said in a release. “During his time with the academy and Union II, he has shown how skillful he can be with the ball at his feet and his ability to be advantageous in the transition on attack.

“He is another great example of how our commitment to developing talent that begins at the academy level allows them to excel in the pathway to the pros in Philadelphia.”

Vazquez has quickly risen through the ranks of the Union. With the U-17s, he scored the game-tying goal in a 3-2 victory over the Columbus Crew to win the MLS NEXT Cup in 2022.

He played in MLS NEXT Pro with Philadelphia Union II and was a member of the Union’s U17 Generation adidas Cup-winning team the next year. He also contributed 5g/2a in that league.

With a club option for 2027, the 24-year-old Brazilian is now signed through the 2026 MLS season.

“We are proud to see Célio’s growth through our pipeline”, sporting director Lutz Pfannenstiel said in a press release. “He has grown as a professional, both on and off the field, and to reap the rewards with a new contract was something he worked really hard for. Celio continues to elevate his game each and every day and we hope that he doesn’t stop raising the bar.”
