Philippe Coutinho has revealed that he doesn’t regret leaving Liverpool to join Barcelona despite the fact that the move has been a disaster.

The Brazilian playmaker is now on loan at Aston Villa in the Premier League until the end of the season, with a year remaining on his Barcelona deal.

“I don’t regret it,” Coutinho said as per Mundo Deportivo. “At certain times in life you have to make decisions and one of my biggest dreams was to play for Barcelona. It was at that moment that I made the decision but always with a lot of love, respect and gratitude for Liverpool and the friendships that I made there.”

Coutinho cost Barcelona a fixed fee of €120 million plus a variable charge of €40 million. After spent the 2019/20 season with Bayern Munich in Germany, this is his second loan spell away from Camp Nou. He’s had his greatest playing in the Premier League, though, and he’s delighted to be working alongside Steven Gerrard.

“I’m very happy,” he said. “It was my wish to play again in England and in the Premier League. I’ve gotten this opportunity and I’m very happy. It’s what I wanted. I’ve been working hard every day to play well and help the club get good results.”

Gerrard took over from Dean Smith earlier this season and has injected new life into the team, though results have dwindled in recent months. They are now 13th in the league rankings, seven points clear of relegation and 18 points away from a Europa League position.

Memphis Depay and Clement Lenglet were both passed fit after recuperating from injuries on Saturday, according to Barcelona.

Memphis has been out for a little while after an Achilles injury but is now ready to return and stake a claim in Xavi’s team.

The 28-year-old remains Barca’s top scorer this season but faces a real battle for minutes now Adama Traore, Ferran Torres, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang are at the club.

Xavi did talk up Memphis at his pre-match press conference ahead of the game with Athletic and insisted he can still be an important player for the Catalans.
