Curtains fall on the 2022 United States of America (USA) National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) in the early hours of Sunday as Portland Thorns emerged as the winner of the 2022 NWSL Championship.

The Thorns defeated Kansas City Current 2-0 at Providence Park, Portland to win its third NWSL Championship title.
The 2022 Most Valuable Player (MVP) Sophia Smith scored the first goal of the game in the fourth minute of play.
Kansas City Current lost the ball in its opponent’s halve which propelled a counterattack that located Sophia Smith who rounded up Adrianna Nichole Franch in goal for the Current before slotting the ball into the back of the net.

The second goal was a case of confusion and miscommunication between Franch as a cross from the right wing wasn’t well saved by the Kansas City goalie, hitting Addisyn Merrick into the back of the net for an own which doubled Thorns’ lead.
Portland Thorns had other chances to increase its lead but Adrianna Nichole Franch in her fantastic and trademark fashion pulled up some wonderful saves to make to scoreline resectable.

22-year-old Portland Thorns goalscorer, Sophia Smith became the youngest player to score in a final.

She also became the youngest player to win the game Most Valuable Player (MVP).
Smith had already won the MVP award for the season and added that of the final to make it double Most Valuable Player awards.
Kansas City Current and Global FC earned the 2022 Nationwide Community Impact Award.
