The United States Women’s National Team (USWNT) fell 2–1 to Portugal in an international friendly at Subaru Park, Chester, on Friday, ending the Americans’ five-match winning streak.

The record world champions made a dream start, taking the lead just seconds after kickoff when Rose Lavelle finished off a precise pass from Catarina Macario.
Portugal, however, grew into the game and were rewarded in the 41st minute, as Diana Gomes leveled the score with a well-taken effort following Kika Nazareth’s clever assist.
The decisive moment came midway through the second half when Fátima Pinto struck in the 72nd minute.
The result sealed a morale-boosting win for the visitors and snapping their own eight-match winless run.

Despite creating late chances, the USWNT were unable to find an equalizer, with Portugal’s disciplined defense holding firm until the final whistle.
The outcome ended USWNT’s five match wining streak.
Both teams will meet again for the return fixture on October 26, 2025, at the Pratt & Whitney Stadium in East Hartford, as they continue preparations ahead of a busy international calendar.
