Rudiger’s dismissal occurred just before the final whistle for throwing an object from the technical area and then displaying aggressive behavior towards the referee, requiring restraint from his team’s staff as per the referee’s report via MD which was submitted to the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF).
Lucas Vazquez was also sent off in the 120th minute for vehemently protesting a refereeing decision by entering the pitch and making gestures of dissent. Following the conclusion of the match, Jude Bellingham was the third to be dismissed for approaching the referee in an aggressive manner, needing to be held back by his teammates.
According to the referee’s official report, Rudiger’s attempt to confront the referee aggressively could lead to a significant suspension ranging from 4 to 12 matches based on Spanish Football Federation guidelines. The fates of all three dismissed players will be determined in the upcoming days.
For the German defender, he faces a serious consequence which possibly includes a potential 12 match ban if found guilty, breaching Spanish Football Federation’s guidelines.
