PSG Shut Door To Possible Barcelona’s Summer Loan Move Of Highly Rated Dutch Star

Written by Olaleye Oluwadamilola

Barcelona has been closely associated with Xavi Simons in recent weeks; they are familiar with him from their time together at La Masia. Securing the Dutch international’s return in the summer is something they are really interested in.

More Details

Barcelona wants to loan Simons, but as of right now, it seems very unlikely that they would be able to do so. According to Sport, Paris Saint-Germain has no intention of loaning the 21-year-old, and they will not consider sending him to Barcelona.

Simons is not expected to start for PSG in the upcoming campaign and he has no plans to return to the French city. Although he would want to go back to Barcelona, it doesn’t appear likely at this point.

Simons will probably go back to RB Leipzig, where he is currently on loan, at this point. Barcelona still has hope for a deal, but they now believe it will be difficult to pull off.

Diego Simeone has been constantly frustrated by Atletico Madrid’s defensive shortcomings this season as he looks for a lineup and strategy that will shut out opponents. However, Axel Witsel has shown to be a reliable component of his defense.

With his arrival last summer, Simeone had the 35-year-old Belgian switch to a central defender. He has been a mainstay in his defense and has, for the most part, played well, especially against Vinicius Junior in their Copa del Rey quarterfinal victory.

According to Marca, Witsel has played 4,001 minutes this season, which is more than any of his 18 professional football seasons combined. Although there is no guarantee he will stay at Atletico for the upcoming campaign, Los Rojiblancos should make the decision on the basis of merit as his contract expires at the end of the current campaign as it is said that they are in discussions with the veteran.
