Jadon Sancho had put United ahead in the 21st minute and was on course for their first victory in three games before being pegged back by a Che Adams goal just three minutes into the second half.

United have now drawn all of their last three Premier League games after scoring first, a situation which has triggered interim manager Ralf Rangnick.

The break in momentum has been put down to the team’s stamina but head coach Rangnick denies such assertions and would rather his team improve in character.

When asked about the team’s stamina, he told talkSPORT: “I don’t know. There was not much time to improve and work on that in training.

“Whenever we have played so far, I don’t see any fitness issues. It’s more an issue of being aggressive as a team.

“Of course, our players are more technical players, more offensive-thinking players.

“Whenever we need more of this aggression against the ball, being more physical, even nasty I would say, this causes us problems.”

Their chances of finishing in the top four appear to be fading away as they’re level on points with West Ham United in fourth while Arsenal are a point behind with two games in hand. Rangnick was Frank with his assessment of his team’s top four hopes while addressing the press after the game.

“We have given away six points in games, Aston Villa when we were 2-0 up, Burnley when we were 1-0 up, and today,” he continued.

“This can happen once, but it shouldn’t happen three times in a row. We should easily have more points and the situation would be different.”

He added: “The fans are amazing, no matter if we play home or away. What I can tell them is we will work very hard every day in every training session to get the results we would like to get.

“But on the other hand, we have to be realistic and face the situation we are in right now.”

“With games and results like today, we will struggle to finish fourth at the end of the season.

“We have to be more lethal, robust and decisive to reward ourselves in games like this.”

Christian Eriksen has calmed fears from fans as he prepares to make his Brentford debut in a yet to be communicated date by coach Thomas Frank.

The former Inter Milan midfielder suffered a cardiac arrest during the EUROS but has since recovered and signed with the Premier League outfit.

“If there was any anxiety I wouldn’t go back,” he said to talkSPORT.

“If I wasn’t fully committed and trusting the doctors and my heart and my ICD then I wouldn’t go back, so I feel 100% secure to go back.”

Eriksen mentioned the role played by Frank in his decision to sign for Brentford but did make it clear he never planned to depart Serie A champions Inter before his accident on the field.

“[Frank] was very important,” Eriksen explained. “He obviously wanted me to come here if it was possible, and at the time it was the perfect mix for me as a football player and also the family.

“Before I was not planning on coming back to England, that was not on my mind.

“But after the incident it became clearer and clearer the longer it went on that I couldn’t play in Italy because of the ICD.

“And then of course my mindset changed that if it can’t be Italy the best option would be England and the Premier League, a London club for the family was the perfect mix.”
