There’s no denying Martin Zubimendi’s extraordinary qualities and his influential role in Spain’s Euro 2024 conquest. The Real Sociedad midfield gem in recent months have sparked a two way battle between Real Madrid and Arsenal despite the EPL side been in advanced negotiations with his club but the €60m clause which the txuri-urdin side are not willing to negotiate downwards has been a major issue for both his suitors but Los Blancos are reportedly devising plans to usurp Mikel Arteta’s side for his signature.

More Details

Real Madrid remain determined to secure the signing of Zubimendi and plan to re-engage with Real Sociedad soon in an effort to reach an agreement. Meanwhile, Arsenal are set to bypass the need for direct negotiations by triggering the midfielder’s €60 million release clause, allowing them to proceed without involving the Spanish club.

Real Madrid, on the other hand, are reluctant to meet that valuation, instead preferring to negotiate a lower fee by offering to loan one or two of their players to Real Sociedad at no cost—a strategy they hope will make the deal more financially palatable.

Real Madrid believe there is no other defensive midfielder on the market who matches Zubimendi’s quality as per Diario AS. Speculation suggests that the 26-year-old himself would prefer to stay in LaLiga, especially after publicly declaring that new Madrid boss Xabi Alonso is his “idol.”

Late last month, reports emerged that Zubimendi was in London for a medical, but he quickly quashed the rumors by sharing a picture of himself relaxing at the beach. AS reports that Real Madrid are planning to offer Real Sociedad several players on fee-free loans in hopes of lowering their asking price.

Should the Basque club reject that offer, Real Madrid will face a tough decision which is to pay Zubimendi’s release clause or risk missing out on the talented midfielder.

Adding another layer of complexity to the saga, Real Madrid are reportedly unwilling to match the salary that Arsenal have offered the Spanish midfielder—a discrepancy that Arsenal could potentially use to their advantage as the competition for his signature heats up. With the player’s future still uncertain, the difference in pay could prove decisive in determining whether the 26-year-old chooses to remain in LaLiga or make a move to the Premier League.
