Real Oviedo have secured their first reinforcement of the winter transfer window, announcing the loan signing of midfielder Nico Fonseca from Club León until the end of the season.
The Uruguayan began his professional career at Italian side Novara, where he played until the 2019/2020 season. He then returned to Uruguay, representing River Plate Montevideo before moving to Montevideo Wanderers F.C., steadily establishing himself as a reliable presence in midfield.

Fonseca’s performances caught the attention of one of Latin America’s biggest clubs. In the 2023/2024 season, he joined River Plate (Argentina), making 28 appearances and scoring once. His most recent stint was with Mexican side Club León, where he featured in 35 matches, playing a key role in the team’s midfield setup.
On the international stage, Fonseca has also represented Uruguay under coach Marcelo Bielsa, further highlighting his experience and versatility. He is expected to be officially presented by Real Oviedo in the coming days, where he will also address the media.
The addition of Fonseca is seen as a crucial boost for Real Oviedo, who have struggled throughout the season and are seeking stability in midfield as they push for improved results.
