Written By Onyeka Daniel

As is usually the tradition, teams usually unveil their jersey for a new season towards the end of the penultimate season with a few matches left to play, but for Inter Milan, that would not be the case, for several reasons. After the Scudetto triumph, the Nerazzurri fans are waiting to purchase their next home shirt with the second star and the Scudetto badge.

More Details

And it seems like they would have to exercise a little bit of patience than usual. They started their Scudetto party after their Derby della Madonnina win over Milan on April 22nd and the celebrations continued following their home win over Torino six days later. The final stage will come on May 19th, when the captain, Lautaro Martinez will be handed the trophy.

The Nerazzurri are hoping to earn at least €25m from shirt sales, with countless fans already waiting to purchase the historic kit, where they will have a new shirt design too. Reports indicate that the shirt will have largely vertical blue and black stripes, but with some stripes that are instead horizontal on one side.

There will also be a new shirt sponsor. For the fourth season in a row since ending their long-term partnership with Pirelli, the Nerazzurri will take on a new sponsor, where they currently have a pact with Paramount. This time around it will be betting company Betsson.

And then there will be a couple other major additions to the Inter shirt for next season. First of all, there will be the second star over Inter’s club crest on the shirt. That will be to represent twenty Serie A titles, after the Nerazzurri clinched this season’s Scudetto. Then, there will be the Scudetto crest itself.

That crest, with the colours of the Italian flag, will sit in the middle of the shirt.According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Inter have agreed with Nike to launch their 2024-25 home shirt, with the second star and Scudetto badge, in their first pre-season friendly in July, ahead of their tour in China.

Another reason why they will not be able to debut the shirt with the Scudetto crest this season is because, per league regulations, that crest will still be on the shirts of last season’s champions Napoli until the end of June.

Therefore, the first appearance of next season’s shirt should be in a training match at the start of July. Then, Inter’s squad can wear the shirt in their preseason tour of China during the summer, reports the Gazzetta.

Inter owners Suning are aiming to refinance their debt to Oaktree Capital by the tenth of this month, and according to a report from Il Sole 24 Ore, there are options for a new loan from PIMCO, or an extension with Oaktree on the table. The loan that the Inter owners took on from the US-based fund in 2021 to cover operating costs during a pandemic-related financial crisis comes due this month, on the 20th.

If Suning were to default on paying back the full amount they owe Oaktree (the original €275 million amount plus over €100 million in interest) then their controlling shares in Inter would pass into the hands of Oaktree. But the Inter owners are aiming to refinance and avoid such a scenario. And they hope to do so very soon.

Suning have clearly signalled their intention to stay at the helm of Inter by refinancing their debt to Oaktree for months. The big question has been how they would do so. And according to Il Sole 24 Ore there would be two possible scenarios on the table. One would be to extend the deadline via an agreement with Oaktree.

According to the report, the fund has offered terms on an extension of one year. Then the other possibility would be to refinance with a new loan. Suning are in advanced negotiations with another US-based fund in the form of PIMCO to secure just such a loan.Reportedly, the amount would be over €400 million.

This would allow Suning to pay Oaktree the amount that they owe in full. There is not yet a full agreement with PIMCO, however. That is what Suning are rapidly working towards.Il Sole 24 Ore report that the Inter owners are working together with law firms Lahtam Watkins, Dla Piper, and Pedersoli-Gattai.

And the report anticipates that Suning have a clear timeline in mind to wrap things up. The Nerazzurri owners want to secure the loan within the first ten days of this month. Therefore, it now looks as though Suning should officially clarify their status at Inter within the next week and change. This will bring to an end months of uncertainty.
