Report: Messi Takes Wage Cut To Stay At Barca

Written by Onyeka Daniel

In a new development, it’s now being reported that Messi and Barcelona have agreed on a new deal that will tie the player to the club for another five years, extending his 21yrs stay at the club
further.

His last contract expired at the end of June and negotiations have been ongoing with the hope of continuing the relationship. An agreement is now said to be in place as the player is believed to have agreed to reduce his previous salary in order to help the club fall within the La Liga wage gap.

Messi recently helped Argentina win the Copa America trophy, his first international trophy for his country and would be hoping to continue the fine form into the new season as he looks to join his teammates at the Camp Nou after his holidays.

Messi will be 39 by the time his expected contract expires, so he’s not expected to see out the whole length of his contract with reports stating that he might go on to play in the United States at one point or even take on the role of an ambassador within the club.

There are reports of a release clause embedded in the contract in case there is need for a separation at any given time of the contract.
