Written By Albert Echatah

Less than a year after Djordje Petrovic joined Chelsea, the goalie could be on the market.

More Details

The Serbian international joined the Blues in a deal costing an initial £12.5 million last summer after emerging as one of the top young prospects in the Major League Soccer.

Chelsea pounced to sign him. Petrovic replaced the injured Robert Sanchez in December of 2023–24, his first Premier League game, after a tough season at Stamford Bridge.

For the balance of the season, he would continue to be Mauricio Pochettino’s first choice in goal, with five clean sheets.

Due to a minor injury, the 24-year-old was left out of Chelsea’s squad for their preseason tour of the US this week. Although he is anticipated to return to the States shortly, his long-term future in west London appears to be in doubt.

There has been questions about his readiness in goal under new head coach Enzo Maresca, Chelsea are now open to bids.

Chelsea are looking at a lot of different goalkeeping alternatives, but the team has ruled out a move for James Trafford of Burnley and Aaron Ramsdale of Arsenal. Scouts in west London believe that Villarreal custodian Filip Jorgensen is a player with great potential, and the club has made an early move for him.
