Cole Palmer reportedly has a clause in his contract that will go into effect if Chelsea fails to qualify for the Champions League, which could force them to sanction a deal for the Englishman.

Despite winning their previous five league games, Enzo Maresca’s team has now lost four, drawn three, and won only two of their last nine games in the top division.
It is difficult to imagine Chelsea overtaking Pep Guardiola’s squad if their dismal play persists, even if they are now one point behind fourth-place Manchester City, who hold the final Champions League qualifying berth.
According to TEAMtalk, a number of players will think about their futures if Chelsea does not qualify for the Champions League. This is concerning for supporters because some players, like Palmer, have contract conditions that would compel Chelsea to examine bids.
Palmer made an instant impression on the Londoners after joining from Manchester City in the summer of 2023–24. He led the Blues in both goals and assists that season with 22 and 11 goals, respectively.

With 14 goals and six assists this season, the Englishman has been directly responsible for 43.5% of Chelsea’s Premier League goals in 2024–25. He was also directly responsible for 43.4% of his team’s goals in the top tier previous season.
Palmer has failed to contribute a goal in eight of Maresca’s club’s 13 games this season, and the team has dropped points in 13 of those games, demonstrating how dependent the manager is on his lucky charm.
No matter how much the club spends in the summer, it would be extremely tough to replicate the 22-year-old’s productivity in the final third if he were to go.
